Church Recipes

About Church Recipes

Welcome to Church Recipes, a project dedicated to preserving the culinary heritage found in community and church cookbooks across America.

Our Mission

Church Recipes is dedicated to digitizing and preserving recipes from vintage church and community cookbooks, making them accessible to a new generation. These cookbooks were often produced as fundraisers for churches, schools, and community organizations, and they contain treasured family recipes that might otherwise be lost to time.

The Problem

Many of these cookbooks are now out of print and difficult to find. The physical books themselves are aging, and the knowledge contained within them is at risk of being lost. While these recipes are captured in print, they aren't searchable online, making them inaccessible to most people.

Our Solution

We're creating digital versions of these recipes, complete with the original scanned pages. Each recipe is carefully transcribed, making it searchable by search engines and accessible to everyone. We preserve the original text and instructions while presenting them in a clean, modern format that works well on any device.

How We Work

  1. Collect: We source vintage church and community cookbooks from thrift stores, estate sales, and donations.
  2. Scan: We digitize each page containing recipes.
  3. Transcribe: We carefully transcribe each recipe, preserving the original wording and instructions.
  4. Format: We present the recipes in a consistent, easy-to-read format while maintaining a link to the original scanned page.
  5. Share: We make these recipes freely available online for everyone to enjoy and preserve for future generations.
